1. Regional Allocation

Cross-check the regional allocation matrix and make sure your region is allocated to the term of your choice and to the campus of your choice.

Regional Allocation Matrix:
Years 2026 – 2031

2. Home School Liaison Teacher

Find the liaison teacher(s)* at your school. It can be more than one and often is better if this is so. They are going to be the lynch-pin and the key to the team’s success and the individual student’s preparation, separation and reintegration for the program.

There should be a time allocation to this role if the school is to have a successful overall experience in this program.

*For more information about the role of the Liaison Teacher, see our guide:

STEP #2

Select Students

1. Notification of gaining a place in 2026

You will be advised of your success in gaining a place in our 2026 SSL Programs in Term 3, 2025.

2. If selected …

If selected in the expression phase, Schools will then be advised after the selection process on the number of student positions available for each school and the gender makeup required.

3. Process of Student Selection

In expressing interest in the program, the school accepts responsibility for selecting a team of students whom it deems will benefit most from the leadership experience. Careful consideration must be given to student selection and as such liaison teachers and/or Principals are encouraged to participate in a Webex meeting with SSL staff. You will be advised of this meeting at least 2 terms in advance of your school’s participation. On acceptance, this process should begin. Please note you may not get the full allocation of students you have requested. The best practice would be to select 4 students with 2 emergencies.

4. Student Team & Project Selection

The process of selection of a team and the development of a project can happen concurrently, and often this can work very well. Some schools use the process of development of projects to indicate a commitment to the team and hence student selection.

WEBEX INFORMATION SESSIONS

Principals and/or Home School Liaison Teachers will be expected to attend a Principal and Liaison only ‘Selecting and Supporting Your Team’ SSL information session via Webex.

STEP #3

Create Community Learning Project

1. Community Learning Project (CLP) to be identified

A Community Learning Project (CLP) has to be identified. See exemplars of projects contained at the end of the Expression of Interest document and also the CLP examples that have been included here:

You will be asked to detail successful CLPs from past participation. The school will and should approach the SSL campus for advice and support in developing the CLP.

2. Home school to support student team in CLP development

Home schools then need to support the team in developing their project. See exemplars again.

3. Additional Information:

All the other documentation needs to be submitted in week three of the term prior to attending.
Students may be asked to participate in an online 3600 positive psychology based ILP self-assessment tool.

2026 APPLICATIONS DUE: 20/06/2025

Completed Expression of Interest forms for the 2026 SSL Programs must be sent to the Snowy River Campus by 20 June 2025.

The Education State \ Victoria State Government Department of Education

Each term, school teams of year 9 students selected from both metropolitan and country Victoria regions attend the four School for Student Leadership Campuses.

Each campus sees a new intake of approximately 45 students drawn from Victorian Government Schools across Victoria. All programs are co-educational.

Government schools submit an expression of interest to participate and are allocated a certain number of student places. Each school then selects participating students based on their own selection processes.
